Statistical surveys carried out by Polish Resuscitation Council (Polska Rada Resuscytacji) indicatedgrowing cardiac arrest death rate in Europe which now amountsto approx. 700 000 cases per year. To protect their employees' health and lives and regarding the above, DSSEdecided to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and locate it in a public place, i.e. in the company canteen.

Additionally, DSSE personnel were provided with AED training conducted by people allowed to give first aid.

Should the need of AED's use arise, the company informed other companies from Żarowo Sub-zone about its availability.

The defibrillator can be used by any Sub-zone company within 2 minutes, while the emergency service usually arrives at site within 8 minutes. It is estimated that if a person with cardiac arrest is not defibrillated in 10 minutes, his or her survival rate is lower than 2%.
